Delmarva Power Asks Customers to Conserve Electricity
Extreme Heat and Humidity Drive Heavy Demand

WILMINGTON, Del. - Delmarva Power today requested that the public conserve electricity while the area experiences an intense heat wave.

Extreme heat and humidity have driven demand for electricity to high levels. Delmarva Power asks customers to conserve electricity if health permits, especially between the hours of 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Delmarva Power offers the following conservation tips for electricity consumers:

  • Close curtains and blinds to keep out the sun and retain cooler air inside.
  • Postpone using major electric appliances such as stoves, dishwashers and clothes dryers until the cooler evening hours.
  • If health permits, set your air conditioner thermostat higher than usual.
  • Turn off non-essential electric appliances and equipment.

While the company expects to have enough electricity to meet the demand for power, if necessary, Delmarva Power may be required to initiate further operational procedures to preserve the integrity of the region's electric power grid. Delmarva Power will continue to monitor conditions and request the public's assistance as necessary.
