Radio Watchtm
"Improving the quality of life in the communities in which we live and work"
Delmarva Power created Radio Watch because we care - about our children, our neighbors and our communities. Since the 1983 inception and trademark of Radio Watch, more than 50 other public and private sector organizations nationwide have recognized the value of this unique program and have adopted it. Radio Watch provides a unique opportunity for other companies to join our efforts to increase the quality of life in the communities we serve.
How Radio Watch Works
Participating organizations form a civilian network of vehicles with two-way radios or cellular phones. This network provides a valuable service to local police and emergency service personnel by acting as extra "eyes and ears" throughout our neighborhoods. Delmarva Power, in conjunction with local law enforcement officials, trains participants to observe and report suspicious events, crimes in progress, traffic accidents and other emergency situations. When Delmarva Power dispatchers receive an emergency call from a Radio Watch network participant, they notify the proper authorities of the location and circumstances.
The Radio Watch decal, conspicuously placed on participating vehicles, is highly visible and easy to recognize. This visibility is an additional deterrent to crime, and lets the public know that when they need help, Radio Watch is there for them.
During nearly two decades of service, Radio Watch has helped thousands of people - from actual life-saving intervention to calling a tow truck for stranded motorists. Radio Watch has received national recognition, including both the President's Citation for Private Sector Initiatives and the President's Volunteer Action Award. Each year, many individuals receive recognition for their community service through this program.
