Maryland Standard Offer Service (SOS) Rates
Overview - Maryland law requires Delmarva Power (CPD) to use a competitive bidding process to buy electricity for customers who do not choose a competitive electricity supplier. Customers are charged for this service - called Standard Offer Service (SOS) - under rates approved by the Maryland Public Service Commission. Under a settlement approved by the Commission, Delmarva Power began offering SOS at market-based rates on June 1, 2004 for non-residential customers and July 1, 2004 for residential customers. Supply rate caps that were in place since 2000 have expired.
Effective June 1, 2005, Delmarva Power's Standard Offer Service (SOS) supply rates will change, subject to the approval of Maryland Public Service Commission. Under the new rates, the typical annual bill for a residential customer using 750 kilowatt hours per month is expected to increase 5.6 percent, a monthly impact of approximately $4. Each customer's bill is based on individual use, so your bill may change more or less than the average.
